Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty Exhibit at Star Trek Las Vegas 2019

Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty Exhibit

A series of pictures from the Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty exhibit at the 2019 Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, as part of the promotional push for the upcoming Star Trek: Picard show. The exhibit’s conceit is that these are items curated by Starfleet celebrating Admiral Picard’s career.

While most of the props are reproductions (the originals lost or auctioned off years ago), the uniforms on display were all costumes worn on screen by Patrick Stewart.

Patrick Stewart at Star Trek Las Vegas 2018

For the past few years, we’ve gone to Vegas for vacation, which just happens to coincide with the big Star Trek convention held annually at the Rio. Shortly after William Shatner’s panel on Saturday, the host advised that everyone would want to stay in the room for a big announcement. Alex Kurtzman emerged soon after, and after a brief preamble about Trek’s future on TV, he announced a new show focused on Captain Picard starring Patrick Stewart. Stewart emerged, and well, here you go…

Enterprise Bridge Reproduction at STLV 2018

ISS Enterprise Bridge Reproduction

For the last couple of years, a painstaking reproduction of the ISS Enterprise (the Mirror Universe variant of the stalwart ship) has been set-up in the Palma Room at the Rio casino’s convention center. I was able to get some good shots of the bridge set this year, despite the low light conditions and the number of people trying to take pictures themselves (it’s a popular exhibit).

The reproduction itself is amazingly faithful, right down to the thick plastic buttons that don’t really do anything except look pretty when they’re lit-up. It’s the closest you’ll ever get to stepping on the set itself, and I have to tell you, the Captain’s Chair is quite comfortable.
