C-17 Globemaster III Tail No. 05-5145

C-17 Globemaster III Tail No. 05-5145 out of March ARB on approach. When I was stationed at Yokota AB, Japan, I was on the ground team that caught the first C-17 that landed in the Pacific/Asia region and we were the first in that hemisphere to lay eyes on the aircraft interior. The C-17 was light years ahead of the C-5s, 141’s, and 130s that we were used to, with the biggest surprise being the lack of a flight engineer, to the delight of the crew chiefs. It also turned out to be a maintenance-friendly airframe and an all-around “cool plane”
